As I Am

Unheard Stories, Unfiltered Lives. A humanising, story-centred documentary work that centres the lived experiences of transgender individuals across the globe. Written with community, not about it.

Every life contains a story worth telling. Most never make it to the page.

As I Am is a non-fiction narrative book that centres the lived experiences of transgender individuals across the globe: their identities, families, relationships, mental health, and place within broader social and systemic structures. It does not approach transgender lives through a clinical or academic lens. It foregrounds full humanity: joy, struggle, resilience, love, and the daily realities of navigating a world not yet fully built for them.

With research spanning multiple countries and communities, the book captures the universal threads and deeply local textures of transgender life worldwide. It explores identity and self-understanding, family dynamics and estrangement, mental health and resilience, workplace realities, and the intersection of trans identity with race, culture and faith.

This book is written with community, not about it. Every voice is treated as the primary source of truth. Every story is shared only with full informed consent and participant agency.
